I. DID YOU KNOW ...
Sea turtles are one of the greatest living groups of animals that ever lived, having survived the dinosaurs.

They have been around for about 200 million years and survived perfectly well until human activities placed under pressure.

They act as environmental indicators. When turtle populations are healthy, is reflected in the health of their marine habitat.

They feed on a variety of organisms, for example: Carey eats sponges and corals, providing space for colonization of other organisms, increasing the diversity of the species.

Provide a clean habitat for a number of animals including fish, and various marine and terrestrial species.

Sea turtles are an intricate part of the ecosystem. If they are killed, many organisms dependent on them will be affected as well.

Sea turtles make substantial contributions to nutrient and energy beaches, promoting plant growth, stabilizing beach systems.

Green turtles feed on sea grass, increasing the productivity of these areas.

The leatherback is the largest predator of the jellyfish, providing natural ecological control of jellyfish populations.

If the decline in marine turtle populations continues, the consequences will be severe in many marine and terrestrial plant and animal species that sea turtles depend for their survival.

In addition, sea turtles are a flagship species, which means that they are a species chosen to represent an environmental cause for the conservation of eco systems and marine wild life.

Chosen for their charismatic nature, the uniqueness and vulnerable position, it is the duty of all help protect and save the sea turtles.

II. CONTEST

  • We invite you to participate in the CIMAD  tale contest. For this you must write a story under the headline "THE RESCUE OF A SEA TURTLE". Send your story to info@cimad.org. The best stories will be published on our website.
